Round Rock
Standing on the street called Chisholm Trail, I took this picture of the Round Rock. If you look closely at it (click on it for a larger version), you will see that it has been painted, and that at least one of the layers of paint is maroon. Round Rock High School colours are maroon and white. For a Senior prank, one year the pranksters painted the rock. They were busted and required to paint it grey. I'm guessing that those who set the punishment were concerned that any solvent used to remove the paint would pollute the creek.
The other picture shows wagon tracks. Cattle drives were accompanied by chuckwagons. We are looking east, and the IH35 overpass is in the background.

THE Chisolm Trail. Now that's some history for you!
ReplyDeleteRonni, have you ever been to Fossil Rim in Glen Rose, Tx? Those wagon tracks reminded me of the dinosaur prints in the riverbed there. Fossil Rim is a free roaming animal park where you stay in your car but can feed the animals such as giraffes, zebra, antelope, ibex, etc. I'm sure Aiden would get a thrill out of this place or if you ever want a place to take out-of-towners.
ReplyDeleteFossil Rim sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI've never been there. I have n idea where Glen Rose is, but I'm thinking I should find out.
Jim has not been to Inner Space Cavern. Maybe I'll drag him over there this summer. It's about 5 miles up the road!
According to the map you take 35 north to 144 right into Glen Rose. There is an info center in the heart of the little town where you can pick up pamphlets and the backroad map to Fossil Rim. This is a trip worth making but plan the whole day as it will take you about two hours to get there from your place. They have a BurgerKing-like restaurant there but also a shaded picnic area outside of the restaurant where you can bring your own food and drink.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Definitely a project for the summer.
