Another Round Rock Story

Where Chisholm Trail (Yes, Virginia, it is THE Chisholm Trail) meets RM 620, there is a little sliver of land between the Trail and the train tracks. It used to contain a row of tiny cabins that were really an eyesore, but provided a cheap place to live for several families. The only vestige of those residents still there is an occasional feral chicken.

Now, there's a park. It's supposed to be some sort of "sculpture garden," but the sculptures are not appearing as fast as was initially predicted. After all, somebody has to purchase them and place them there. So far, there are Pioneer Woman, Pioneer Boy, Bell Steer, and Longhorn.

Pioneer Woman is about 7 feet tall. She represents a woman who actually travelled the Trail with her husband, driving cattle to Kansas.

Chisholm, himself never set foot in Texas, as far as I know. He joined two trails, the Shawnee trail (the one through Round Rock) and another, at the northern end, and gave his name to the whole.

This park is right to the south of Brushy Creek, where Chisholm Trail crosses it at the (you guessed it) Round Rock for which the town is named.

I will post a pic of the rock in a future entry.

The thing has suffered more from high school students than from cattle or weather.
