I have done the play before. I played "Mae" in a production of "The Oldest Profession" with San Gabriel Productions in Georgetown.
Several of us in the show were too young. The ladies from Sun City had decided to do the show, but one of them died accidentally from exposure to carbon monoxide, and her closest friend couldn't face doing the show without her. There were a couple of Sun City ladies in the show, but the others had to be collected from whoever showed up for the audition.
One actress got pneumonia during the run, and had to be replaced by the stage manager. I think that helped to sell tickets, as Carol, the stage manager and producer, was a jeans-and-shirts kind of woman, who hadn't worn a dress in years, let alone makeup.
But the worst thing that happened was the disappearance of the director's daughter. Janet Cooke was directing, and her college-age daughter, home for Christmas, vanished while jogging. Janet tried to soldier on, but couldn't, and Carol took over.
I hope I get cast this time. Six years later, I'm much closer to the age required, and, with all the crap I've been through recently, I look even closer than that.
It would be nice to do the show without all the external anxiety and sadness.
Good grief! Did Janet's daughter ever find her way home?
ReplyDeleteEvery mother's worst nightmare!
Janet's daughter was never found. Years later, a man already in jail for murder confessed to killing Rachel, and then recanted the confession in court. The Sheriff's Department are pretty sure he did it, but can't prove it at this point.

I was wondering about the daughter too.
ReplyDeleteRonni -- I sure hope you get a part - do u have a preference?
I actually think you're looking good in that pic with Carrie - but I am sure it is not a diet to be recommended.
The good thing about this show is that you don't have to look like a vivacious hussy :-) Most days, I could carry off an "old bag" role quite nicely -- too damn nicely!
I would like to play Vera, given my choice, but all the roles are good, and any one of them would be a hoot!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get the part Ronni. You've been on my mind, when it's working, a lot lately.
ReplyDeleteHow sad that story is. I do hope the rehearsals and the play, itself, go smoothly this time.
Hi Ronni,
ReplyDeleteBeen very busy with youngest daughter, she is home from hospital now. Gee I hope you get the part you want,I think this is the sort of medicine you need. We will be leaving for our trip to Canada, Alaska, and New york in six weeks, so hopefully my daughter, will get a good run with her health. I am really looking forward to it.Hi to Mgt, how is the weather in your part of the world? Hope your health is a bit better.
