Rant

I know this has been said over and over by people much more savvy and articulate than I, but I have a thing to say.

A new poll suggests that over half of Americans now trust the Democrats more than Republicans regarding "moral values" and the "war on terror."

Why are these the issues we consider MOST important?

No political party has dibs on "moral values." Most powerful men, through history, have been skirt- (or trouser-) chasers. Either that, or totally celibate. The Republican attempts to whitewash the Foley scandal only paint the apologists further into a corner.

Let's accept that our leaders are going to have peccadilloes. Let's insist that they keep said peccadilloes on the legal side of the age barrier, be discreet, and leave it at that.

And this vague "war on terror" is nothing more than an excuse to gut the constitution, with our complicity.

Let's make an attempt to get beyond these smoke screens and ask some real questions of our potential leaders. Let's find out where they stand on issues that really affect us.

The Constitution. Recent legislation is making serious inroads on our habitual freedoms.
Education. The quality continues to deteriorate while the cost rises.
Health care. Why should a serious illness beggar the victim?
Social Security. We are getting older and living longer. Something needs to be done.

These are the issues about which we need to be really concerned.

Not who is sticking what into whom.

  1. You are so right about Healthcare being important, Ronni.

My treatment didn't cost me a brass farthing. Plus, they sent a car for me everyday for five weeks, there and back.

Before that, I used to complain about having to wait a week for an appointment. I will never complain about the NHS again!

Better ask about your Pensions. Governments tend to borrow from these funds in a crisis.
