Here's the text of an email I received in response to an enquiry about the status of the firetruck I saw at Lee's Auto Body Shop.

Veronica,
How wonderful it is to know that you were a part of the fire department. I have heard nothing but great things about the Auxiliary. Thanks for your service to the community.
The fire truck that you have seen looks a lot like the one that the volunteers still own but it is actually one that the Round Rock Association of Professional Firefighters bought to restore. It has the union emblem in the center of the name. This fire truck came from west Texas. The city simply did not have room to store the fire truck for the association. It will be repainted with a new motor and brakes as well. Then I understand that it will be used in association functions as well.
The volunteers have recently moved out of the city stations and into a station of their own but I believe the one that you are referring to is still being well taken care of by the volunteers and used in parades on a regular basis. We called it “ Old Number 1”. I had driven it many times in my early days with the FD. I am attaching an email address for the chief of the volunteers so that if you wish you may inquire about the RRVFD truck that you are referring to. It has been well maintained as well as the old hand-pumper that is now behind glass at the library.
If I can answer any more questions please let me know. Have a great day.
Thank you,
Howard Cruse

I'm glad they are working on it. It does look just like the one I rode on in the 1980's!
Good news, Ronni! Phew! This saves you having to gather it up and bring it home for some TLC.
ReplyDeleteJim will be relieved!
True. I'd hate to have to get rid of the motorhome to make room for it!
