"Black Box" is a term usually applied to a small theater that is all black inside.
Sam Bass Theater was painted brown in the "house," or audience area for years. The reason? We had a treasurer who insisted that, if painted black, it would resemble a porno theater. The question posed by his wife, also a Board member, was "How does he know that?"
Eventually, whenever somebody repainted the stage black, one or two boards of the House wall were painted at the same time, until quite a bit of the house was actually black. However, the house did not get painted entirely black until a couple of years ago. For some strange and inexplicable reason, it went through a blue phase in between. A glossy blue phase.
That's over, for now.
