Is the Situation Improving?

I'm hearing that some major contributors (including Bill Gates) are stepping up to the plate, as it were, and sending some money to the rescue and recovery efforts in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. It's about freakin' time! I am totally outraged that four (count 'em--four) days have gone by before anything has happened. The mayor of New Orleans seems to be completely lacking in leadership skills in this emergency. I don't intend to be a political blogger, but I feel outrage, and it helps me to express it. The military is FINALLY arriving in some sort of numbers.

We had help in to the tsunami victims sooner than we have it into New Orleans. What is the matter with this picture? It seems as if there has been no organized assistance. No command center. No structure. All the efforts have been haphazard.

It's like the apocalypse down there.

It's enough to make me want to get a gun and go to the shooting range!

  1. I could not agree more. It is appalling and the finger pointing equally so. Watch for some serious strains in race relations, stirred up by the politicians and caucuses. Knowing that 100,000 of the New Orleans citizens have no car to evacuate, and knowing they would be directed to superdome and convention center, why didn't the mayor ensure adequate supplies?? is that the federal government's fault, or the local leaders? Hmm?

  2. I feel that local leaders were in denial far too long, and failed to make adequate contingency plans. It was useless to order a mandatory evac without providing the means to go, and a place to go.
