Mrs Marochi

Mrs Marochi was an institution at Chemainus Secondary School. Slightly different from our high schools, Chemainus Secondary consisted of students from eighth through twelfth grades. Every teacher and administrator wore at least two hats. The principal taught Math. The Vice Principal taught Algebra. Mrs Marochi was Librarian and Girls' Counsellor. As part of her Counselling function, she taught "Health."

She was about 5' tall, with hair dyed red. She wore sheer stockings and didn't shave her legs. She did, however, shave her chin. As a matter of fact, if I were looking to cast an actor to play her, it would have to be Dustin Hoffman. She was awful. Silence always reigned in the library, no matter what was happening there. And, teaching "Health," we were abjured not to swim at "that time of the month," and always, always, always, to say "No!"

We didn't think she had had a whole lot of practice with either.
