I had it out with Prez today.
We had a Board meeting. I waited until it was over, and then brought out my printout of the email exchange in which I was accused of driving potential players away with my "attitude." I asked why it is that everyone else in the place appears to be allowed to have an "attitude," except me.
I brought up the problems with Prez that happened during "Arsenic and Old Lace." He tried to get me to hush, but I persisted, as he would never talk to me about it when it was just the two of us. One Board member became very uncomfortable, and asked if this really had to be discussed in front of everyone. I pointed out that the meeting had been adjourned and that she was free to leave at any time. She stayed.
I apologized for my part of the mess, as I do know that I had some responsibility for it. I also pointed out that I had been willing to apologize from the start, but my effort was rejected.
I got him to admit that he knew that I would not sabotage him, no matter what it felt like at the time. I guess that was what I needed, because after that I was willing to let it go. I didn't even get into his letting me down for "All My Sons," because that has worked out for the best. I could not have cast B J Machalicek across from him and made it believable. So what if I have to pull a dramatic performance out of a comic actor? I can do that!
(I hope)
I also asked if we were going to be able to work together on shows, or if he was going to be always thinking I might sabotage him. I got a "Yes, we can work together" to that.
I am satisfied. Now I can let it go.
Good, smart, brave Ronni!
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific thing to do.
Three cheers.
I felt really reckless doing it! I figured that I could go play in a smaller theater, if it looked as if I couldn't fix this situation. Why does everyone want me to "let it go?" Otherpeople don't "let it go." Whoever was upset because of my "attitude" didn't "let it go."
ReplyDelete~grrr~
Oh, good for you, Ronni! I bet you feel much better, now.
ReplyDeleteThere is such a lot to catch up on here. Be back later.
