Round Rock can be so confusing. We have a Memorial Park, where the Theater is, that used to be called Lions Park. There's a memorial stone there, dedicated, I think, to veterans. I shall have to check on that.
This, however, is Veterans' Park. It has been reclaimed from the drug dealers. I hadn't been here in a very long time. I should have come here during the flood, but I forgot about the dam. This new playscape is wonderful, replacing an old splintery wooden one that had been here since the late 70's. Never mind that the picnic tables are set in concrete, where the ones in most other parks are merely chained down. This may just indicate that the playscape/tables are new, and that all parks will be like this in the future.
It's just a few blocks downstream from here that Round Rock's version of La Llorona has been reported. La Llorona is a Mexican legend--a mother who has lost her children to drowning, and divides her time between searching for them and trying to snatch living children to replace them. She cries and wails, hence the name, which means, roughly, "She who Cries." Or "The Crying Woman." Mothers traditionally tell their children that La Llorona will get them if they don't behave.
You wonder how our children ever went to sleep.
ReplyDeleteLittle Red Riding Hood; Three Little Pigs; Snow White.
Goldilocks was quite mild compared to some of the scarey characters in nursery rhymes.
Do you know whether the story of the Crying Woman, works?
I never tried it myself!
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Ronni!
ReplyDeleteI hope you managed to get a good nights sleep. We are still having extremely hot temperatures, here. Quite honestly, I'm flabbergasted!
I have an aircon blasting down on my shoulders each day, which is uncomfortable....legs and feet are hot, head and shoulders are cold. Argh!
Global Warming, I'm tellin' ya! We might as well get used to it, though I haven't ever got used to normal summers here!
ReplyDeleteMay I just say; about the 'other' thing. I couldn't agree more!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the 'word' I sluttered with laughter, but, it was lovely to see it in print.
Cheers!
Sometimed ya just have to call a c-word a c-word, and damn the torpedos! LOL!
ReplyDeleteSluttered? It must be these gnarled, witch-like fingers.
ReplyDeleteHey! It's morning!
ReplyDeleteFor me, anyway! LOL!
ReplyDeleteUmm, no pressure, Ronni, but didn't you promise to take some pictures of the auditorium?
ReplyDeleteJust in case it slipped your mind...!
