Amber
I love amber. Each piece is like a little drop of solidified sunlight. It has many colour variations, and some of is it opaque.
It is very light, so it's possible to comfortably wear big chunks of it. I wear the ring and the necklace a lot; the earrings, not so much. I have to wait until my hair grows out a bit, as they look rather ostentatious when my hair is this short. I usually have to be pretty much dressed up to wear any earrings that large.
Every time I look at amber, I get a warm feeling. The world can't be such a bad place, where such a thing exists.

I've always thought amber was a fascinating fossil. I'd like to have a piece with a bug inside it. It does make beautiful jewelry.
ReplyDeleteReal bug pieces are rare. You see a lot of it at fairs, but it is amber that has been drilled and melted and a modern bug inserted, and the hole filled with the melted amber.
ReplyDeleteAnytime you see one that has a bug in it being sold cheaply, it's tat sort of fake.
Opaque amber, sometimes called "butterscotch amber," is frequently cheaper than fake amber. I bought a lovely string at a flea market. The seller was having a difficult time convincing passers-by that it was really amber. As soon as I picked it up, I knew it was real. The fake stuff is much heavier.
With your colouring, that jewellery must look really great on you, Ronni.
ReplyDeleteI could see myself in it, too. Lovely stuff!
It's a gift from Mother Nature!
ReplyDeleteAmber tells a story of the past, I think that's why it intrigues me. I also love it combined with turquoise.
