Why, you may ask, do we have so many cats?
Well, no matter. Whether you ask or not, I'm going to tell you.
Red is our oldest. We inherited him from Addy. What were we supposed to do? take him to the pound?
Hilary and Bear are the offspring of a cat I rescued from some very small children who had found and were tormenting her. Unfortunately, she got pregnant before we realized she was ready to be spayed.
Moe was one of a litter of red tabby kittens somebody brought to us, asking if we could find homes for them. We called them Eeny, Meeny, Miney and Moe, and found homes for the other three.
Tripper we found abandoned at Jim's school. There were two, and another teacher got the other kitten.
Quinn was the only tame kitten from a feral litter that Brendan's grandmother was feeding off her back porch. She still has one or two of them that she feeds, but they are not pettable.
Vanessa found Gladys in the parking lot of a Denny's restaurant on the access road to the Interstate.
Banshee was one of a litter born by a pregnant cat that Chandra found.
Achilles was found by one of Jim's fellow teachers. He had a broken leg, and of course we said we would take him.
And you know about Lolly.
All our furbabies came to us, one way or another. We feel blessed by them.
No matter how much I would love to help defenceless animals, I just couldn't afford it.
ReplyDeleteYou really are the personification of goodness!
It doesn't cost so very much, compared to what they bring us. There is an organization called Animal Trustees of Austin that spays and neuters and give the required shots for a resonable price, and after that, it's just cat food and kitty litter.
ReplyDeleteCompare that with having lap warmers, foot warmers, acrobats and paper shredders; well!
There you go again, with your cup half full!
ReplyDeleteI feel cold hearted, now. Geez!
Maybe it's more expensive over where you are.
ReplyDeleteWe all do what we can, Mgt, wherever we are called to do it. If cats aren't your call, it's OK.
I hate being "guilted" into doing things, and wuld not like to think I was doing that to somebody else!
My daughter is a cat lady, too :o)
ReplyDeleteShe currently has 4 humongous cats, and I mean huge! all of them rescued one way or another. She also has a ferret that keeps them all in line. The antics can be hilarious.
Our cat died a couple years ago, and we haven't gotten another so far. One needing rescued will turn up sooner or later~ if my daugher doesn't beat us to it.
Sassy, that's the best way.
