Random Crap

I've been trying to clear out the hall closet, due to damp, and, in the process, have found interesting stuff, such as the winter clothes that have eluded me all season.  Of course, now my room is piled high with quilts, pictures and clothes.

It must be Spring, because, in spite of the aforementioned piles of clothes, I can't find a damn thing to wear.  Nothing goes with anything else.  I live in a world of clashing separates.  Either that, or they are too large.  I have lost some inches, and last year's Tshirts feel sort of baggy.  However, I'm still too big for my older stuff, and for the stuff I bought when feeling hopeful.  It's clearly time for a trip to the donations door of the Serving Center.  The problem is that, if I donate somewhere local, I wind up buying my own clothes!

I did that several times, most notably a black dress I had in the 70s and early 80s.  It was an unabashed "hippie dress," made of crinkle cotton, long and flounced.  When fashion moved on (and on and on), I took it to the Goodwill.  Several years later, I came across a rack of such dresses in the store, and pawed through it.  A black dress looked familiar, and I pulled it out, saying, "Wow, I had one just like that!  I wish I had kept it."  Just for grins and giggles, I hoisted the hem--and recognized my own hand-sewing!  I had to buy it.

The Atheist Community of Austin is beginning to hold craft nights.  The first was last Friday.  I so wish I could go but don't have a free Friday until the 11th of May.  A Prior Commitment, you might say.  Well, you might not, but I might.  All I need is a gentle nudge to get back into knitting or macrame or Ormanents.  That, and a bit of time.

Which I have run out of, for tonight.  In three minutes, it will be tomorrow.

  1. I've done that. I found a fairisle sweater in a charity shop that I had knitted for a friend. It had shrunk in the wash and it wouldn't have fitted me even before that had happened, but I bought it anyway. Daftness. Sentimentality. Something like that.

  3. I love it! Did you wear it a lot after you bought it? I have a dress I donated that I wish I could find again, but I'm sure I'll never get that lucky.

Now, I did play a prank... My late husband once donated a lamp that he hated. I don't even know where we got the danged thing, it looked like it had been hand made and painted with black and gold porcelain paint. Well, I found it about 4 years later at a thrift store. (Had to be the same one, it was a one-of-a-kind!)I bought it for $1, and gave it to my late husband for his birthday. His expression was priceless!!! :-)
