Driving

I went driving on Sunday, and forgot my camera. I was going to Johnson City, but I missed the turn into the Ranch, so I continued on to Fredericksburg. There, I was surprised to see so many people out shopping in their historic district. Busy little town, Fredericksburg. I know Enchanted Rock is somewhere around, but missed that, too, so checked my map and grabbed the first thing northbound from there. That ended at Highway 29, in Mason. Mason is a very pretty town. Most of the historic buildings in Texas are made of limestone, because we have a lot of it, but Mason is made of sandstone, and had a lovely golden glow. I shall have to get back there with my camera. I headed east on 29, and eventually fetched up at IH 35 in Georgetown and came on home. Had to stop for gas, because I was hovering on empty.

The next time I have two days off together, and a bit of money for a motel, and nice weather, I'm going to drive west until I see desert. Mason is about as far west as I have been in Texas, and it is still in the Hill Country. I think that, if I were to start out early in the morning and drive all day, I might get there by sunset.
