World's Ugliest...Thing
Whenever I see them at the thrift shops, garage sales, or Goodwill, I buy those little pots that kindergarten kids make for their moms. They are made with so much love, that I just can't bear to see them sit there. They look so lonely.
Well, while on such a quest, I found this.
I took several pictures of it, in different lighting, turning it this way and that, trying to find its good side. I am forced to conclude that it doesn't have one.
I think it's Raku-fired, meaning fired underground, much like a barbecued pig. It seems to be made of river clay, and heaven knows what it's glazed with.
As they have World's Ugliest Dog competitions, I am sincerely hoping that somebody has a World's Ugliest Pottery contest. I think this one is definitely in the running.
I have never seen such an ugly pot in my entire life.
It does not appear to have a mark. I can understand that. I wouldn't have signed it, either.

you have such a BIG heart! I know what you mean though, and it's sad that a lot of parents don't cherish the things as much as they should. I have a collection of drawings that a little boy I took care of for years made in a file, someday I will put them in a scrap book and give them back to him! His mother never saved anything. He will be so surprised.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's not the parents. Sometimes the parents save stuff, and it's the kids who send everything to Goodwill after the parents pass on or go into a retirement home.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great purchase - certainly one-of-a-kind.
ReplyDeleteOur youngest did something similar - although your's wins the prize for ugly, she's a very close 2nd with her "Bin Laden's cave" -- it looks more like something you use a pooper-scooper for to me. It sits proudly on an end table in our livingroom. I wouldn't part with it for the world.

Wow. That's sure something.
ReplyDeleteWhat, I don't exactly know.
It's a bong! Not that I would know, since I don't smoke *anything*, but it sure looks like a bong to me.
ReplyDeleteI love it! :)
I'm with Jooley Ann, when I saw it that old Rob Schneider character from SNL came to mind..."You put your weed in there!"
ReplyDeleteWhen we lived in Chicago and Philly we would frequent estate sales and find great stuff. But it always broke my heart to see scrapbooks, family photos and wedding mementos, etc. being sold. But I'm a very nostalgic pack rat. I'm sure the people doing the selling would think that's sad, too. (Although they would be wrong, as they are heartless!)
OFF TOPIC:

What a stupid, stupid man.
He is so used to playing the system that he thinks his alleged victims call the shots. If a law has been broken, the prosecutor has every right to proceed with charges.
What a blight on humanity.
It's not a bong. None of those tube things is hollow.
ReplyDeleteKontiki, if OJ hadn't done something wrong, he'd not be going to court. He seems to think of this as a private matter, and also blames the prosecutor. Typical narcissism.
I stand corrected.TY
ReplyDeletehey I wonder if you could gather a collection so big you could go on Ripley's! lol or the World's record for ugly pottery? lol
On second thought, maybe my post wasn't off topic.

I don't think there is such a thing as off topic, around here.
ReplyDeleteOnce, I had to delete an entry because somebody who was stalking somebody else all over the net, decided I was that somebody in disguise and spammed me by copying and pasting my entire blog into a comment. The only way I could get into my blog at all, as a result, was to delete the entire entry.
I had written a rather scathing review of the Donna Thomas book about Scott's purported confession.
OMG Ronni, you MUST send this to The Museum of Bad Art In Boston! Yes, it's a legitimate museum! And one of my favorite sites, too!

Heh. I sent them some pictures...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tracie!
I agree with Jooley Ann. Looks like a bong to me too!
