Striped Shirt

We are going on a trip. Leaving in maybe 10 days, and going through Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.

We might even go to Washington DC, even though we won't have time for me to do justice to the Smithsonian...

We are taking Loretta's Striped Shirt with us, so expect pictures featuring this artifact.

Ponsa ponsa time, a witty and acerbic blogger called Loretta frequently wore a very pretty striped tank top. Folks who didn't like her made fun of the many pictures she posted of her travels, frequently clad in this Shirt. Since then, the Shirt has been travelling from person to person, and has been photographed in many locations.

Ramona and I had fun accessorizing it.

After we get home, I will ship it off to the next person on the list.

  1. That shirt is cute. Why did they make fun of it? (I especially like it with that skirt)

  2. They attacked her for everything! Her hair, eyes, teeth; her openness about her recovery from substance abuse, her several marriages to obnoxious men...you have no idea how vicious some people can be, hiding behind an anonymous nickname on the internet.

It was an eye-opening revelation to me, I can tell you!

  3. The shirt! The shirt!
Oh, it's back in Texas. (I think some of the pictures she wore it in were when she visited with us in Kemah.)
    I like the shirt, too.

I hope you have fun on your trip and do post pictures.

  4. What a smashing combo, Ronni!

I especially like the hat with the orange band.

    Turquoise is my favorite color.

Have a fun & safe trip!

It's amazing how many seem not to realize that there are real people (with real feelings) at the other end of the cyber-highway -- their actions are a true reflection of their character - or lack thereof.

can't wait to see your pictures! have a blast!
And yes people can be very mean, most haven't learned the saying "if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all".
The hat is a nice touch!

  6. Hi Ronni-readers:

Am curious if anyone has an opinion of Sylvia Browne -- just watched her on Montel Williams.

Her body language and overall demeaner absolutely reek of arrogance, imho. Although I am not a total non-believer in psychic abilities, she stikes me as F.O.S.

    Comments anyone?

  7. Accessorizing ... reminds me of the movie Remember the Titans when the girl says "I'm not playing [with dolls] ... I'm accessorizing." Always makes me chuckle.

Thought you might like to know that I've started posting Dismaying Stories again. Drop by if you get a chance.

  8. Have a great holiday Ronni, I have just had a nice break from everyday stresses, even though they are nothing compared to yours, I still feel better for the break. Have fun. And yes I remember the shirt. That was a very nasty vicious experience, when even people who weren't doing the wrong thing got dragged into it. Have fun. You have a wonderful country and I am looking forward to seeing more of it.

  9. Hey, guys! Thanks for all the great comments! To answer a couple of misunderstandings: I am not going to actually "wear" the shirt, because a) I'm sure Loretta would prefer that it not get all stretched out, and b) I would look like a striped sausage. Loretta is very slender--the way I used to be. I am now a size 10/12, and that shirt is maybe a 6.

Second: the people who were attacking Loretta, and those of us who chose to defend her, or at least stand alongside and support her right to express her opinions, were very well aware that they were attacking real people. They stepped into Loretta's real life and sent CPS and the police to her home, and got her fired from one job and forced her to defend herself to a licensing board for another career.

These people were vicious, attacking her, her family, her supporters (aka "misfits") and their families and livelihoods. There were no holds barred. For a while. Eventually, some of the more intelligent among them decided that it was a waste of time, and got sick of the constant negativity, so it wound down.

I am now officially fearless on the internet, having been baptized in fire. Anyone else wants a piece of me: bring it on.

Thanks, Mutts, for causing me to plumb the depths of my personal beliefs and courage!

  10. Re Sylvia Browne: She is totally FOS. I used to like her, because of her matter-of-fact delivery, until the following happened.

Janet Cooke, a friend of mine, lost her daughter. The girl, Rachel, was home for Christmas from college in California, and disappeared while jogging. She has never been found. Janet's husband, Rob, went on Montel, to see if Sylvia had any insight, or, failing that, to get Rachel's picture and name out there nationally. Rob did not appear as a guest, but was one of the people who asked Sylvia questions from the audience at the end.

She blew him off, totally. He asked, and she flapped her had in that insouçant way of hers and said, "she's near the water." When Rob asked if Rachel were alive or not, Sylvia ignored him and went on to the next question. The woman had no idea what to do with a person who had a real situation going on.

That told me that she is as phony as a three dollar bill.

  11. Thnx for confirming my "gut" re: Sylvia Browne, Ronni.

Interestingly, it is her matter-of-factness that makes me smell a rat. Given the nature of her "gift", she is much too absolute for me. Why isn't she solving crimes instead of selling books?

It is one thing to postulate something - things that cannot absolutely be proven or disproven -- but quite another to chide the people who know some facts of those facts. The way she picks her teeth with her cat-like claws plus her lack of eye contact is very telling. I hate that she profits from the misery of others.

I am so sorry to hear of your friend's daughter's disappearance. I am sure that if Rachael were to be found on dry land Sylvia would argue that she had showered that day to justify her "water" comment.

Montel seemed to hang on her every word -- I would have thought he was more savvy than that.

  12. The shirt!! I was just thinking about it the other day. I did some of my best sight seeing (local sights anyway) with that wonderful shirt. Good times.

  13. Ahh, The Shirt. I had fun escorting it around the Capital City. Got some funny looks. Doesn't everyone talk to items of clothing? Sheesh.
