Why Does It Feel Weird?

I'm alone for supper today, for the third day in a row.

I'd like to go out to eat, but, for some reason, I feel weird about it.

I grew up in a generation in which women didn't go out alone in the evening. they went with a man, or another woman, or a party.

Ye Gods! We whacked our hair and burned our bras. Women are lawmakers, Governors, Speakers of the House, mechanics, carpenters, even Presidential candidates, and yet, I'm afraid of what people will think if I'm eating alone in a restaurant?

What a load of crap.

I'm going out to eat.

  1. You GO!!!

I went out to eat and drink about a month ago (no, not the last time, I do it all the time alone) and remember a woman asking who I was waiting for.

I straight faced told her. My waiter.

  2. It was all right. I may as well get used to it! I never feel weird at lunch, or breakfast. It's just the dinner thing.

The waiter did make a point of asking if I was by myself, and he put me in the back, right in the path to the restrooms, but that's OK.

    The Curry Tofu was terrific!

  3. Yick, not a curry fan. Though I do love tofu as long as its not trying to be something other than tofu that is.

I find that in a nice restaurant if you are alone the bar is the best place to eat. Hell, I eat at the bar if I am alone in any place. You also for the most part dont have to explain that you are alone.

I eat at tables when I am with other people lol.

I splurged today and bought RED!! Merlot red curtains, throw pillows and seat cushion for the floor (I sit on the floor in the living room, not the couches, even at OTHER people's houses if I know them well enought).

Most of my other stuff is sage colored, and it really looks awesome. Red is just a color I have been wanting in my house for so long. Now I am thinking of painting a wall to match!

I am also thinking sunflower yellow for the kitchen, but one wall at a time.

Glad you had a good dinner. I myself had stouffers lasagne, which you may think is lame, but its actually my favorite lasagne. I havent even had homemade that I like better.

  4. To quote a line from one of the "Gazpacho" brothers in "The Odd Couple, Female Version,"

    "Stouffers...ees almost like real food!"

I like Stouffers. The only macaroni and cheese I like better is that made by Brendan's grandmother.

  6. lol, I LOVE the mac & cheese too.

I had the kids (my niece and nephew) one day and they said they wanted chicken fingers and macaroni and cheese (check, I had both in my freezer knowing they were coming)

They took one bite of the mac and cheese and spit it out.

"Aunt EMMMMMMM, this is GROSS, WE LIKE THE MAC AND CHEESE IN THE BLUE BOX"

I am likened to hit my sister at that point, not because I dislike blue box mind you, I LOVE junk food, but that their only exposure to mac & cheese is blue box!

Its like comparing cheetos to a cheese platter!

  8. Good for you!

I believe you get good value for money in Texas. The portions are rumoured to be HUGE!

    Is that true?

  9. Happy Birthday for tomorrow, Ronni.

I am snowed under with work and I would hate to miss your Birthday. I'm counting on wishing you tomorrow, too. That's if all the changes going on at work allow it.

If I don't get the chance, may I wish you a wonderful day with peace and serenity. I know you will have your sad moments but this is expected I suppose.

  11. Yeah... it's a funny world we're in. Not always in a ha-ha way.
Curried tofu? Where did you go?

    Anyway!
Since I'm already at work and don't know if I'll be coherent tonight -- have a *happy* birthday, Ronni.

    Yeah, I know -- it's ok. =HUGS=
((and a lunch when we're all not working so hard))

  12. I went to Hao Hao. What they can do with tofu has never been replicated! And, yes, the portions are huge. I brought the leftovers home for another meal.

  14. I've never eaten tofu but am always will to give it a try.

Terry, I like looking around the room if I eat alone. Not that I go out alone to swanky restaurants, or anything. I sometimes eat alone in the BT (workplace)restaurant, if my pal has a day off or is on leave.

I try to get a table near the windows and sit side-on, so I can see the Clyde River and the rest of the scoffers.
