A Driving Day

I ran over a deer carcass on 620 on Friday. When I got home and checked the underside of Minnie Miata, there were great gouts of ook hanging off there. I took it to the car wash that very evening, but not even their pressure hose got it all off.

It smelt pretty bad yesterday, and, as tomorrow I have to get the oil changed, I thought maybe it would burn off.

So today, I went for a drive.

I shall be glad when I have figured out how to put a line on a map and post it. Then I could show you where I went. Briefly, I drove down IH 35 from Round Rock to New Braunfels (New Broffels to local people. I don't know why), and from there, took 46 through Boerne (Bernie), and on to Bandera. I drove around Boerne for a while, but the residents were not very friendly, or at least the convenience store clerk wasn't, so I didn't stop and take a lot of pictures. The picture above is the Comal County Courthouse, located in New Braunfels. It's unusual for a Texas County Courthouse, and very pretty.

The country is very pretty out that way, and Kaye had told me that there was a good scary road out there. I didn't find it, but I did have fun. I got pulled over in Bandera, because I "seemed to be having difficulty maintaining my lane." I guess he wanted to see if I was drunk. Which I wasn't, so he was very polite. In truth, the sun was in my eyes, the speed limit kept changing every few miles, and I was looking for a place to pull over so I could get some pictures of the beautiful scenery.

From just outside Bandera, I took 16 through Kerrville to Fredericksburg, and back 290 through Johnson City to Austin and Mopac from there.

I think I left around 3:00 PM and came home between 11:00 and 11:30.

I don't smell the ook any more.

  1. Your stories make me smile, Ronni. Great picture. As you can imagine there are some historic buildings over here too. I wish they would be better appreciated.

Have a good day off (unless you are working your no-work day, again).

  2. I have to call Thundercloud, but the costume shop is closed today. I have some errands, though, like getting the oil changed...

  3. Talking about getting the oil changed....I was driving up to the store to get my weekley bus ticket and my car was shouting "STOP" in flashing red lights.

The car was over-heating and there was no oil in the poor old thing. I drove straight to the petrol station and fulled up on oil. Phew, I really panicked. Typical female (I forgot there isn't someone doing it for me)!

The guy who does my yearly check-up usually does that for me. Well, I think he does cause I never had this problem before. Maybe I better stop refusing to go for a drink with him, whachahink?

  4. I don't know, Mgt. I am supposed to get mine changed every 3000 miles. That's less than a year, usually at least twice a year.

  5. You are right Ronni, and you should also get it checked every 3rd time you go to the gas station to see if it needs topping off. (easy for me to say since I live in one of only 2 states that is full service only, we arent ALLOWED to fill our own gas here)

    Nice pictures btw!

  6. My car is a shopping trolley. It doesn't do much distance travelling. I live in Scotland which is probably quarter the size of Texas, if that.

Mgt, I think I'd rather put the oil in myself and buy my own drink.
