Trip Log: Day One

This is at the top of the San Jacinto Monument. Of course, I forgot that change would be needed for the telescopes, but it didn't matter. There was another kid up there, Aidan's age, with his parents, and they didn't have any change either. Kids, endlessly adaptable, decided that the telescopes were actually machine guns, and they killed all enemies in sight. Including the ship off in the distance in this next picture.

However, a couple of hours later, we were on that gangplank you can see there, waaaay off in the distance. We spent over an hour clambering about on the ship in the rain. You would have laughed to see me climbing up and down ladders, umbrella in one hand and gift shop bag in the other. Of course, we had to go to the gift shop first--it closed half an hour before the ship did. No wonder I didn't get many pictures there!

After that, we repaired to our hotel for a change of clothes. We were a bit damp. I called Carri, who had invited us over for dinner, and off we went.

Carri is all sorts of cool, and her husband, "Joe," a Pasadena police officer, tells wonderful stories...there's nothing like a good serial murder! Aidan and I went back to our hotel at about 10:30--an hour later than I had intended, as it's not Spring Break in Houston.

Coming up: Day Two.

  1. Hey, great picture! And a great gesture from Carrie, who is gorgeous, btw.

  2. Her whole family is really nice. They live in the kind of neighbourhood this used to be; comfortable and shady, and about the same age as this one.

Joe made spaghetti and garlic bread. I want to go back...
