It's Midnight...Do You Know Where Your Children Are?

Last night, around 11:00 PM, I know where I was. I was posting in a private crime forum with other like-minded and sick-of-basketball people.

All of a sudden, one of the posters told us she had just taken the phone away from her granddaughter because the child (a middle-schooler) was attempting to call somebody she didn't know, who had told her her phone number in a chat or IM. The grandmother C & P'd the exchange, and posted it in the forum. The child had given out three phone numbers (all with a Pittsburgh area code), and claimed she was Victoria Justice, from whatever teeny-bopper TV show...she backed off from that, and said she was Victoria's friend, "Amber."

I called the numbers. On two of them, I left a message, saying that it's not a good idea to give out your number over the internet. To be honest, we all thought this might be a predator. On the message, I also stated that the numbers were being forwarded to the police.

I got a call back, which I answered. there was a very young, female voice on the other end, who told me, "Fuck you in your face, bitch!"

Nice.

She left several more messages over the next hour or so, none of which you'd like to hear out of your daughter's mouth, I don't care who you are.

Today, I got a call from her father. I guess he was prepared to rip me a new one...gawd knows what the child told him. One of the phones may have been his, for all I know. Some people let their kids record their outgoing messages.

I wound up telling him I hoped I had scared her, and that a lot worse than I could have got her phone number.

I think the child is in a heap of trouble.

Love that Pittsburgh accent!

Sleepover telephone games have become a lot more complicated since I played "Do you have Prince Albert in a can?"

  2. If Jan were my daughter, she would have trouble sitting down for the next few days, but I suspect the window of opportunity for that has long passed in her family.

She had her dad convinced that a) she has no access to internet, and b) that she was asleep.

She was definitely in the presence of at least two other kids at the time she made the calls to me. I can hear them.

What a shame..Hope her father beats her A--! It's alot sfer then what a predator would do to her!
