Hilary is Gone
One of Brendan's friends told him that PetCo or PetSmart (one of them) will find a pet adoption agency for unwanted animals. They lied, or were mistaken.
Hilary really has to go. The rest of the cats are picking on her, and the only place she can find any peace is on my lap. She usually gets there by leaping and scrambling across my keyboard, knocking mouse, monitor and modem flying in all directions. Once, she knocked the tower completely off my desk. Recently, they have started lying in wait for her near the litter box, so you know she's leaving prezzies all over the house.
I put her in a carrier and went to Petco. They offered me space on their bulletin board for an ad. I've left ads. At Petsmart, the clerk gave me a list of "adoption agencies." She lied. The list she gave me had four numbers on it. Two were for Animal Control. Right. That's the City Pound, people! The third number was for a dog rescue service, and the fourth has nobody there on weekends. I left a message.
I have got to get rid of this cat. I need homes for more than just Hilary, but I think things may calm down considerably around here without her.

OK. The Williamson County Animal Shelter has taken Hilary. It was pretty rough, but it's a nice place, and they don't kill the animals. I hope they don't pass them off to somewhere else that does kill them. I forgot to ask about that.
I'm sorry, Jim, but she was going off the rails. Hopefully, somebody will take her home...

I'm curious.
ReplyDeleteWhat about her made her a target for the other cats?
Have you ever had this happen before? Or .. even heard of it? Oftentimes individual personalities clash but a gang mentality? Gosh!
You did what you had to do -- one can take only so much meyham & prezzies.
At least she can sleep with both eyes closed now - hopefully you can too :)
Poor Hilary! It sounds like she was having to endure a feline version of junior high! I hope they find her a nice, calm home away from the popular cats, and that things calm down for you, too, catwise.
ReplyDeletedarr - junior high -- what an apt analogy!
ReplyDeleteShe's such a pretty pussy - I hope she'll find a good home.
I've never seen this extreme gang mentality among cats. Usually, they fly solo. Occasionally, one will have a best friend. Yesterday was the worst--there were three or four cats stalking Hilary at the same time. Cats do not usually do that.
ReplyDeleteBear cat used to pick on her all the time, but he was the only one. With him gone, I guess she was up for grabs.
Amazing.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see whether you have an alpha-cat in your midst and if a new victim will emerge.
For everyone's sake, I hope not!
Really, really strange.
