Feelings About Hilary

I almost went back and got her this morning. I got to thinking about her sleeping in a cage, and couldn't stand it.

I cried all the way home after I dropped her off. She is such a wonderful cat. When she was a kitten, she would climb right up your jeans, which was how she got the name, Hilary. It had nothing to do with Hillary Clinton, and everything to do with Sir Edmund Hilary and Mount Everest.

We frequently left the front door open at that house, with the screen closed. She would climb up the screen and sit on the top of the front door, waiting for a person to walk by so she could leap down onto a shoulder.

So, now all the animals in the above picture are gone. Bearcat was put to sleep a couple of weeks ago, and Chomper (the rat) died peacefully of old age.

Hilary would be a wonderful only cat. She's sleek, affectionate, neat, and very good company.

  1. Ahh Ronni, I am so sorry. So many losses in such a short time. :(

It's tough to lose a family pet and I would suspect even moreso since Jim's passing. He seems to have been a real cat lover. :(

It seems clear that the feline status quo was untenable. I don't know that you had other choices. All you can do is your best & I think you have done that. Her life couldn't have been much fun the way it was. A cage, however undesirable, has to be better than being stalked & frightened.

Hopefully this will be a very short term transition. She is such a pretty kitty who likely will catch the eye of someone who will give her a loving home.

  2. Oh, Ronni, I'm so sorry. That's such a hard decision, but absolutely the right one.

Sounds like she has a wonderful personality in addition to being completely gorgeous. I'm sure that she won't be at the shelter for long.
