Christmas "Ormanents"

These can be made with old Christmas cards, too.

The edges can be left untrimmed, or painted with glitter paint, or touched with glue and rolled around in loose glitter. There are a lot of possibilities for individual expression. They also illustrate the principles of Buckminster Fuller's Geodesic dome, and the structural integrity of triangles. They are amazingly strong.

  1. Ronni, that is SO cool! Not sure I'd have the patience to try it, but what a great idea.

  2. They are a lot of fun to make, and a great recycler for old Christmas cards. Once, I saved cards for years until I had enough gold ones to make a gold ball.

You can make "theme" balls with cards; all holly, or Santas or angels...

  4. I have to be at TCloud in 7 1/2 hours!

The electric things are still going wild here. The other night, the lamp on my nightstand came on about five minutes after I turned it off. I'm not using the touch light any more--it's a little milk-glass lamp that has a key-type switch.

  5. I can't see the picture, the cruds have cut me off.

I will say that if I had my way glitter would be taken off the market, totally. It gets EVERYWHERE...your skin, your clothes, your carpets, your kitchen, your bed and I'd like to know how it does that. LOL

    I know, I'm a big fat killjoy.

  6. Very nice Ronni, wish I had your creative touch. Costumes, and writing and xmas decorations, home decorating, what else?

How is the theatre going Ronni?

  7. Possum, do you do the traditional Xmas or do the BBQ thing if it is going to be scorching?

    By your leave, Ronni.

  9. Hi Mgt,

The last couple of years we have done BBQ, and seafood.
We tried to have it outside last year, but the flies were so bad, that we had to move everything back inside. I still prefer the traditional dinner,I don't like seafood. Do you have memories of xmas downunder?

  10. Love this idea. The cool thing about using Christmas Cards is that they'll be vintage someday! I bought a wonderful bowl at a garage sale made of very old C Cards handstitched together with red embroidery thread. My aunt makes something like these ornaments too with Cards, but I can't remember the exact shape. The directions look easy enough, but do you have to use hedge clippers to cut out the paper?

  11. Well, these are just too cute! Very clever and reminds me a big of what we did at the Arts Center the other morning and I blogged about today.
Also really cool how you were able to share the instructions with us.

  12. LMBO at Tracie!

Those scissors are the latest thing in Fiskars. The "hedge-clipper" styling of them means I don't get blisters...

I actually have a Fiskars circle cutter, but chose to do these this way for the slide show, as most people probably don't have the circle cutter.

  13. I feel the need to tell you... I have those scissors!!! Don't worry, not YOUR pair... but a pair just like em :D

I hope you read that last part before you ran off looking to see if I'd somehow snatched yours...

hope you have a Merry Christmas!

  14. I'm still trying to figure out how Mgt got glitter in her bed. Hmmm.

  15. Lilo, I know you haven't got my pair, because they were in my hand when I read your post.

Aren't they wonderful? I've made half a dozen ormanents and nary a blister!

  16. We shall have to ask Mgt about that glitter...

  17. Umm, I have a grandson who thinks my bedroom is the coolest place in the house. Yeah, why?

Nadine, are you trying to imply that I'm making hanky-panky with a Christmas card maker, hmm? LOL

Actually, I think "it" might have healed up already (from lack of use). Snort!

  19. Good heavens, Erin! How did you find this from almost 3 years ago! they are better with Christmas cards, but with cardstock, you can decorate them any way you want...
