Caves

Jim loves caves. We have been to quite a few, and he has been to many more. However, he had never been to InnerSpace, the caves near where we live, so yesterday, we went.

Of course I forgot my camera, and it wasn't until we were in the InnerSpace parking lot that he asked me about it. It was a bit damp down there, due to the recent rains, but a fun trip. There are some very good formations there, especially one huge flow stone that I'd love to have in my living room.

Of course, there was the obligatory child who had to talk through the guide's explanations, but I do all right with that--he was only about three. It was the teenagers from California who had to stop and pose in front of every formation for a round of pictures that ticked me off. Particularly early in the tour, when we managed to find ourselves behind them and missed an entire lecture because they weren't moving. After that, we scuseme-pardonme'd our way past them and left them at the back of the line.

When we first entered, the guide told us to look for the blue lights, as they indicated places where the cave extended at least 50 feet beyond the light. A couple of rooms later, one of the smaller children said, "Look! There's a blue light! That means the cave goes on a million miles from there!"

We should go more often.
