When Jim was in college he (of course) majored in various aspects of theater. He did a lot of tech, hanging lights, cavorting around in the flies, etc., frequently in the middle of the night.
The lobby of the theater was used to display art projects of various kinds. Much like the Round Rocks's PAC displays art from students throughout the district.
Once, one of the "art" pieces was an area of sand on the floor, with a rusted beadstead, complete with springs, set up in it. I suppose it was designed to represent the drought and decay in relationships...I don't know. Neither did Jim. But, he thought of an improvement, and brought in some of those little plastic cowboys and Indians and set up a battle scene in the sand.
It sort of changed the focus of the piece, you know?
Of course, he got in trouble with his department head, and was forbidden from working in the theater at night. That lasted for about a nanosecond, as the department head knew that shows would not go up on time if the techies were restricted to daytime labour.
Still and all, I thought it was a very profound comment on Modern Art.
