I've had all these scathingly brilliant ideas running around in my head for days, but, faced with the screen and the new keyboard, I am mute.
The awful head cold I have might have something to do with it. Or the sheer exhaustion of Final Dress Rehearsal for "Arsenic and Old Lace."
I always used to get terrible colds just before opening night, but it hasn't happened in years. This one is bad enough to render something that should be fun into an event to be "got through."
Our Stage Manager just got her voice back. I sure hope I don't have what she had! She is still a bit weak and overwhelmed, which is a pretty typical feeling for a Stage Manager at Final Dress. Still and all, in all the shows I managed, I never once told an actor to find someone else to help with a costume! I never once told an actor to find someone else to do anything. If an actor needed help, I made sure he got it. In all fairness, Jennifer did just that, but there was a bad moment when the costumes that we thought she was going to place in the Annex weren't there, and I had to go groping for black costumes in the dark of the backstage area. A very bad moment, in which I thought uncharitable thoughts, over which I have now got. The problem has been solved by her asking another actress to help us by placing two sets of funeral garb in the Annex so that Ben Irene and I can get dressed without having to find the stuff.
On the good side, I'm hoping that an application of Vicks Vaporub will improve my general disposition in time for Opening Night.
Lovely to see you back, Ronni!

ReplyDeleteAh......Vick's Vapor Rub...now there's a childhood memory. Hope it does the trick in time for the show to go on. (Sidenote: have a book for you, The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. Treat yourself after the show is done.
ReplyDeleteI will be SO ready for a new book by then! Thanks, Kim!
