A tiny cemetery, measuring about 50 ft. by 50 ft, with a huge old live oak tree in the middle, and some gravestones, most of them broken. I have lived her almost 30 years, and never knew this was here until I read "Historical Round Rock" by Jane DiGuesaldo and Karen Thompson.
This place has been like "The Purloin'd Letter," hiding in plain sight!
The only thing is; the book says it's about 1/4 acre. Does that fenced area look like 1/4 acre to you?
You have taken such an interest in you adopted country, Ronni.
ReplyDeleteThere is always something interesting, over here. Thanks for giving us something new and different each day.
A quick shout-out to Nadine, if I may.
Have a good one, Ronni!
The thing about Great Britain is that you can hardly take a step anywhere without being knee-deep in History.
ReplyDeleteI wish they would invernt a thing that you could wear, tied into GPS, that wherever you stop and push a button, will give you a history lesson about the exact spot you are standing in.
We visited the Uffington Horse when I was last in England, and walked this tiny sunken lane down to the Wayland Smithy. We went to Avebury and saw where people had carved up parts of the stones for building blocks. The road taken by Chaucers pilgrims is, in part, a path that runs behind my mother's house in Essex.
Excuse my ignorance, Ronni! Is that the Horse on the hillside that looks White?
ReplyDeleteIf so, how big is it? It always looks enormous to me.
I really want to join the National Heritage Trust. You pay a yearly fee and get free access to all sites. I went all the way to Edinburgh Castle with my sister-in-law, but refuse to pay £10 to walk around.
It sounds petty, now, but it was the principle of the thing. We had been in a Pub for lunch and had a few drinks more than usual, and were running short on Moola. LOL
So we took a tour bus, instead. Now, THAT was interesting!
Sorry for rambling, on and on!
The two links with the post will give you abetter idea than I ever could!
ReplyDeleteA 1/4 acre? Naah, she was taking a 'flyer'!
ReplyDeleteOr maybe it's the notorious inability of women to estimate a measure! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI paced it off, and it was 18 paces square. I'm sure my pace is slightly less than a yard, so I'm guessing it's about 50 ft. each way.
