This evening, the three of us went to see The Black Watch Pipe and Drum Band, with the Band of the Welsh Guards. I had a sore hand to begin with; it's killing me now from all the applause. The concert was at the Erwin Center, a venue much more suited to basketball games and ice shows. I'd say it was less than 10% full. The event staff allowed people in the nosebleed section (like us) to move down at intermission. The Erwin Center, once known as the Superdrum, is a round building with terrible acoustics and worse lighting. I guess there aren't many places in Austin to host a marching band indoors.
The bands alternated sets, and played together quit a bit, as well. It was wonderful! Visually as well as musically exciting.
If this show is coming to your town, I highly recommend it, even if such music is outside your "comfort zone."
Thanks for the kind words!
