Sam Bass Theater

The back story about the new seats:

Once upon a time, there was a little theater with nowhere to live. There was an old railroad depot sitting in a field, rotting. The local Historical Society got the two together, and the building was moved into a parking lot in downtown Round Rock. It was a shell. The theater members built a stage, installed air conditioning, and bought 50 metal folding chairs for the audience.

A few years later, downtown was changing, and we had to move the Old Depot to a nearby park. Shortly after, our treasurer, who was one of the best scroungers the world has ever known (Thanks, Phil!), got us a deal on 50 chairs with fake Naugahyde seats and backs, and chrome frames. They weren't the greatest, but beat heck out of metal folding chairs. The even had about an inch of padding. Life was sweet.

Around 1990, we got some actual theater seats. They weren't new, but they were comfortable. Well, relatively. We tore out the stage, at that point, and built risers for the seats. Finally, we were a real theater! However, over the past 15 years, those old seats have deteriorated badly. They were pretty old when we acquired them, and we put them through a lot.

So now, for the first time, we have brand new theater seats. Brass plaques are being made with the names of patrons who made substantial contributions to the Seat Fund.

We have arrived!
