Oh boy.
I've an idea for the music for "All My Sons." For pre-show music, I'm going to use WWII era tunes. Christina has found me a couple of Andrews Sisters songs, and Jim and I spent this evening listening to a Vera Lynn CD, and getting a little weepy. My mom sang. I think I've mentioned that. My mom sang all the time. What she sang was what she knew, which ranged from WWI songs, to barbershop, the Great Depression and WWII. Throw in some hymns, some Stephen Foster, and a lot of show tunes, and you've got an idea of what I heard all day. I am very familiar with these songs. "The White Cliffs of Dover," "As Time Goes By," "Unforgettable." She sang them all. I can hear her voice--these are the arrangements she sang.
And, I haven't even got to the WWII CD that BJ Machalicek has for me. It's all crooners, and I know it's going to set me off!
For intermission, I'm using anti-war songs. I have a couple picked out--"Blowin' in the Wind," and "White Bird." There's a contemporary country song called (I think) "Arlington," which I want to use, as well.
I'm going to use "Mansions of the Lord," from "We Were Soldiers" for exit music.
I defy anyone to leave with dry eyes!
