I've recently heard an arrangement of "Rally Round the Flag, Boys" that totally blew me away. It was sung very slowly, with solo voice, and, I think, guitar. The feeling was of a soldier trying to get back to camp after a battle, and singing the song to keep his feet moving in the face of utter exhaustion.
I've been searching online, and the closest thing I've found is a version by Ry Cooder from his 1972 release, "Boomer's Story."
It will do, in a pinch, but it's not quite what I'm looking for.
I'm putting together the music for my production of "All My Sons." I have the idea to have WWII music for Pre-show. Andrews Sisters, Glen Miller--like that. Then, for intermission, I want a range of anti-war songs like "Blowin' in the Wind," "White Bird," "Where Have All the Flowers Gone," "Arlington," etc.
I want that version of "Rally Round the Flag."
If anyone knows what I'm talking about, or knows where I could find it without having to look for years, please let me know. The show opens in 6 weeks, so I don't have forever to be searching.
Thanks, y'all!
Morning, Ronni! Sorry I can't help you with your search.
ReplyDeleteGawd! Wars make me angry. Why don't we ever learn?!
That just made me think of my Dad telling me about never getting any sleep for weeks on end. What willpower?!
