Here is a picture of Jim's grandmother and great-aunt gathered around the piano that occupies a large corner of our living room. The picture is 105 years old, the piano somewhat more so.
They took picture-taking seriously. It was still, if not rare, then certainly a milestone occurrence. That, plus the fact that they had to stay still for quite a while made people careful to set up just the shot they wanted.
That's a beautiful instrument. How does it sound? Is the harp in good condition? I know a very good technician if you want to have it tuned. He might know someone in your area.
It must have quite a rich sound with all that wood. Take good care of it.
Those old pictures seem to survive much better than the ones taken 10 or 20 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI love the way those pictures look. We have some of my Grandfather on the footplate of his steam engine. Just wonderful!
Of course, we have others too, but those are the pictures that have a special sense of the times.

What a gorgeous piano and a wonderful piece of history.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet there were lots of good memories created around that piano.
Sorry, Ronni, the Anonymous was me.
ReplyDeleteWe bought an upright piano a couple of months ago for £65. The cabinet is so heavy; I think it is Walnut.
It is nowhere near as exquisite as yours, but we are looking forward to getting it tuned.
Surprisingly, my grandson seems to have a lovely touch, considering he is so overly exuberant at almost everything else.
Hopefully, giving him an interest will stop him from bouncing off the walls.
