Scottlad!

Ponsa ponsa time, in a land far away, there was a little fishing resort. It was February on the shore of Lake Michigan, and the wind howled through the cabins, rented out for the winter to a small contingent of hardy souls.

Christopher Cat loved 'sploring in the dunes, and one day he brought home a friend, a fuzzy grey cat. Chris invited him in and showed him where the food was, mooched a healthy dose of catnip for the two of them, and generally acted the convivial host. This performance was repeated often enough for SSS and I to name the visiting cat "Fluffy."

SSS loved 'sploring in the dunes, too, and one day he brought home Scott. Scott played guitar, as did SSS, so a good jammin' time was had by all. One day, Chris brought his friend in while Scott was playing guitar with SSS. I was petting him and calling him "Fluffy" and telling him how handsome he was, when Scott started sputtering behind me.

"Fluffy? FLUFFY!!!" he said, in tones of incredulous disgust.

"He's my cat, and his name is "Spider!"

Gotta love 'im.

I ♥ Scott.

Eventually, we all moved to Chicago. A good time was still being had by all--a bit too good for some of us.

SSS and I got tired of the cold weather and moved to Texas. Scott came to visit once or twice, and we wrote and called occasionally, but of course we eventually lost touch.

Now, thanks to the magic of the internet, and MySpace, I have got back in touch with Scott.

Scott, after a lot of perambulating around the country, is back in Chicago, doing something computericious for a health club and playing in a jazz band.

Did I mention that, in addition to guitar, Scott plays saxophone and flute? When we lived in Chicago, he taught guitar at the American Conservatory while learning to play the flute at the same school. The band has a MySpace account, with some of their music available to play.

Hi, Scottlad!

An old secret...(shhh)...Scott is the first person since high school, and the last, with whom I've been able to sing. Or thought I could, anyway.

  1. Such a wonderful feeling, catching up with old friends. I lost contact with my cousin, Fraser after he married and moved to Portugal.

Once I got to Scotland I decided to do everything I could to find him. That first email, when you find out that they are still alive and kicking, is just wonderful! It took 30 years!

I love the way you told the story.
