Adventures With Cats

This strange, rod-like object is threaded through the drawer pulls for a reason. It's called "cat-proofing."

It became necessary because of an adventurous feline. Having decided to play in the bathroom, he chased his catnip mouse behind the door. In the process, he closed the door. That would probably have been all right, but then, he managed to open the bottom drawer, and therein lay the problem. The open drawer blocked the door. I couldn't get in, and the cat couldn't get out.

The only solution involved a step ladder and the removal of the screen from the window. Thank goodness the bathroom has a window and that it was unlocked. I had to shimmy through the window.

The rod has been through the drawer handles ever since!

  1. HAH - thank God it was on the first floor.

PS - taking the hinges off the door would have worked too :P

  2. Except that I would have had to be inside the bathroom to do that. If it had been on the second floor, I just would have got a longer ladder.

  4. OMG, how funny. Shimmying through a bathroom window doesn't sound very easy. I'm not sure I could pull it off, and if I did, it most certainly wouldn't be very pretty to watch. My bathroom windows are small and high. Thanks for the laugh. I like your creative cat proofing.
