Remembrance Day 2009
Now called "Veterans' Day," this day was originally called "Remembrance Day," and included solemn parades and moments of silence. The date was chosen because the First World War ended on this date in 1918.
I will not buy anything from a company that advertises a "Veterans' Day Sale," or invited me to "celebrate" Veterans' Day by buying something.
This is not a celebration. It is a remembrance of the sacrifices made by generations of our brave ancestors. Unfortunately, the War to End All Wars didn't, and so most of us have a friend or relative--grandfather, uncle, father, mother, brother or sister, son or daughter, nephew or niece, who has served or is serving in our military.
Please take a moment in your hectic day, and Remember.
Thank you.
