I Dreamed a Dream

YouTube video of Susan Boyle

Of course, the best video disallows embedding.

Here are the lyrics:

I Dreamed a Dream

There was a time when men were kind,
And their voices were soft,
And their words inviting.
There was a time when love was blind,
And the world was a song,
And the song was exciting.
There was a time when it all went wrong...

I dreamed a dream in time gone by,
When hope was high and life, worth living.
I dreamed that love would never die,
I dreamed that God would be forgiving.
Then I was young and unafraid,
And dreams were made and used and wasted.
There was no ransom to be paid,
No song unsung, no wine, untasted.

But the tigers come at night,
With their voices soft as thunder,
As they tear your hope apart,
And they turn your dream to shame.

He slept a summer by my side,
He filled my days with endless wonder...
He took my childhood in his stride,
But he was gone when autumn came!

And still I dream he'll come to me,
That we will live the years together,
But there are dreams that cannot be,
And there are storms we cannot weather!

I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living,
So different now from what it seemed...
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed...

"Now life has killed the dream I dreamed."

Have I mentioned lately that I'm still pissed off at Jim?

  1. Gosh, I saw the You Tube about 3 times already, but hadnt read the lyrics. Or really understood them. I just loved her voice.

That is a really sad song. And now I am pissed off at Jim too.

  2. Part of the problem is that I had been through "cynical," and the fact that Jim returned my love, and we got married at 50, had renewed my belief in happy endings. It was almost a second adolescence for me. I was as in love as any youngster.

I hate what he did to me, let alone what he did to himself, and to us.

  3. It is Fantine's solo from Les Miserables.

  4. I hate it too, Ronnni.
Not fair, too soon for you to be separated, too final, too unexplainable.

    So difficult.

  5. hcm28, what in the world makes you think I didn't know that? I spend quite a bit of my life working in theater.
