Daylight Savings

Thanks for the cartoon, Nancy!

Are we done yet?

Setting clocks back and forth twice a year, to aid and abet farmers in some long lost time before the advent of electricity, seems like a silly idea in this day and age. I mean, if you want an extra hour of daylight, why not just set your own damn alarm to get you up an hour earlier, and leave the rest of us alone?

Failing that, during my almost sixty years, I have got used to setting my clocks forward the weekend before Easter, and back the weekend before Halloween.

Along came George W. Bush, who decided (he WAS the decider, right?) that messing with that schedule was A Good Thing.

It's a conspiracy, I tell ya! A conspiracy! Mess with people's heads twice a year and they will be all edgy and uncertain and easy to lead like sheep! Putting stuff in kids' inoculations didn't work, fluoride in the water didn't work, so it was time to try something new.

Right.

Let me know how it works out...I'm going back to bed.

  1. The thing I hate most (how simple I am!) is that it screws up Halloween. I'm 53 years old and I still want it dark when people trick or treat, damn it!

  2. Kind of like theater--matinees are always a little "off," as it just doesn't feel right to do it in daylight.

  3. I hear you. I hate it. The only place it still makes sense to use it anymore is in the Pacific Northwest, who would have REALLY dark winters otherwise. (as told to me by a friend in Portland).

Really not needed for the rest of the country anymore.
