Graduation Tomorrow!

The sum total of Brendan's remaining public education experience is a graduation rehearsal this afternoon.

It has been a bumpy ride. First, his Pre-Kindergarten teacher asked me, "Did you know he can read?" and suggested he leave his "Power Ranger" moves at home. His theater teacher in first grade made him carry a script because none of the other kids managed to ever get "off book" for their abysmal production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." In middle school, we battled the "unfinished assignments" demon. And one fight, in 7th Grade.

High school has, honestly, been a piece of cake. Brendan has (except for the "unfinished assignments" demon) been remarkably successful in academics, in theater, in finding friends, and in staying out of trouble. He has always been his own person, never feeling the need to dress a certain way or look a certain way in order to win friends and influence people. He is an individual, and he knows he rocks.

They say it takes a village to raise a child, and it has taken a couple of them, and a lot of understanding teachers, friends and extended family to raise this one.

The world is yours, Brendan. Go forth and conquer!

  4. It's either one of two things--sheer luck, or loud and long yelling, over and over and over...
