This appears to be some sort of desert-type plant.
You can tell that I am among the horticulturally ignorant, right? You'd think that, after living here for over 30 years, I'd know this stuff! But, no. To me, the technical name for this is "that spiky thing with the coral flowers."

Yesterday's flower is sold as a garden annual in these climes which is how I was able to identify it so quickly.I don't recognise today's but you might. The thumbnail gallery is useful for a quick ID. You are lucky living in a state with such a wealth of beautiful plants.
Most of them have thorns, prickles, poison, sharp edges or saw-teeth.

That is a cousin of the Yukka (yuck-U) which has the white lantern shaped flowers that is just like that, that is called agave (aw-gov-a)
