Ladybug Liftoff!

Ladybug Liftoff

I've followed a few spousal murder cases. I won't pretend to know a lot about any one, because I don't, but I follow the cases when I can...the "eraser" murders. The phenomenon terrifies me. There are so many guys out there, willing and able to convince dynamic and successful young women that they want to be married and live in domestic bliss, who then cause these same young women to disappear or die, frequently taking their unborn children with them.

The Michelle Young case in Raleigh, NC is unique in my experience. Nearly a year and a half after the killing, warrants are still being served, but no one has been charged with the crime. There are several blogs about the case, and several message boards where discussion centers around whether or not Michelle's husband did the deed. In all the nearly eighteen months, not a peep has been heard out of him, by the media or by the police. That right there has got to make you wonder...

Also, Michelle's family, friends and co-workers have been indefatigable in keeping her name and picture out there, and sending a message to the police and the husband that Michelle is not forgotten and the case is not going to go away.

It started in a small way, with message board strangers sending flowers to Michelle's grave, which is still without a stone after all this time. Then, Progress Energy, the company Michelle worked for, put up a reward, and posters advertising the fact. Some people called "The Magnet Militia" had the poster printed up on magnets and Michelle's sorority sisters handed them out at Homecoming at the University from which Jason and Michelle both graduated. At Christmas, there was a memorial Christmas tree at Progress Energy, with ornaments given out in exchange for a small donation to a college fund for Michelle's daughter, who was found wandering in her mother's blood, trying to fix her "boo boos" with washcloths and band aids. The ornaments were hand made by people who care.

Now, on May 10th, another event is planned. Hordes of live ladybugs are going to be released, along with face painting, children's games, and other festivities, all in honour of Michelle Marie Fisher Young.

In none of the cases I've followed, even the Laci Peterson investigation, has there been this level of real life caring by so many people.

Blessings to all of you!

  1. Surely GPS can prove that he was where he wasn't supposed to be. This was a shocking case. Another one that made me really angry.

I think it was the husband and I hope they get him. His fancy lady probably knows a lot more than she is telling.

  2. Methinks his mommy may know more than she's telling, too.

  3. Mgt, if you're hoping for an "Amber" moment, it ain't gonna happen in this case. The "fancy lady" was forgiven by her husband (the one FL we know about, anyway), and has settled back into her marriage and borne a child since the murder.

As far as his mother is concerned...opinions vary. She may be a shell-shocked woman, terrified of finding out what her son really did, or she may be an enabler. Either way, she is a real piece of work. In my opinion.
