Trip Log: The Trip Home--Bastrop Lake
Aidan took this picture of a magnificent tree at Bastrop Lake.
Dirt + water + boy = bliss.
Aidan playing nice at tetherball with a very small boy.
We came home the old way. Took Bissonet Street to something that put us in Sugarland, and from there, took Alternate 90 to 71, and came in that way.
I had wanted to go through Rosenberg, where SSS and I lived in 1975; our first stop between Chicago and Austin. More on that later.
By the time we got to Bastrop, we were both ready for a good stretch of the legs, and the pine trees there looked so pretty, and I had never been to Bastrop Lake State Park...so we stopped. After we drove through, we saw a playground in the picnic area. Aidan said, "Wow! They've got tetherball!" and was out of the car and running before I even had it shut off. I don't know if he even saw the two little boys (about three and five) playing with their dad. He went barrelling up to the post, and slammed the ball pretty hard, almost hitting the smaller boy with it. The dad looked around to see who had unleashed this hound of Hell. As I was still far enough away that he didn't connect me with my rapscallion, he grabbed his sons by the hand and started to drag them off. Both of them were screaming.
Chaos!
I yelled at Aidan to back off, and then caught up and tried to explain to a very grumpy boy that he needs to look out for the little ones. The boys came back, but the bigger one wandered off in a bit, and Aidan started to play with the three-year-old. I told him to play as if it were "patty-cake," and he did, bless him. After about five minutes, the little boy went back to his parents, and I got in there and whacked the ball a couple of times, so Aidan would have somebody to play with at full tilt. Of course, Little Guy could not resist that, so we were back to "patty cake."
We had walk by the water, and watched some people fishing and got some shots of ducks.
It was almost dark when we got home.

You take my kind of trips! I love stopping off at state parks, etc. Great pictures! It looks like you had a blast. I am so glad!
ReplyDeleteI like to be flexible. I think it's necessary, when travelling with small children.
ReplyDeleteI think I burned the boy out on bagpipe music. I love having a captive audience in the car, and giving them some musical experience that they would not otherwise have had.
Not that Chandra doesn't listen to bagpipes; she does. But, we did total immersion.
ReplyDeleteAidan looks tall for his age. A very handsome boy.
ReplyDeleteBlasting him with the bagpipes made me laugh. Ha, nowhere to run!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful trip and how great that you got to meet up with Carrie!
ReplyDeleteAiden is a very handsome boy and this will be a memory he'll cherish.
He looks like he had a great time.
ReplyDeleteI love your pictures.
Bagpipes huh? lol
I hope YOU had a good time,Aiden is a lucky boy having a Grandmother who does stuff with him.
I never got to know my grandparents.
I'm thinking I missed out on a lot.
Thanks for showing me another little bit of our world.
Have a wonderful day!
What a fun trip, Ronni! Aiden will have lots to share about spring break when he goes back to school too.
ReplyDeleteMeeting with Carri and her family was definitely the highlight of the trip for me.
ReplyDeleteI have more pictures, which I will post...
Oh--I also played the soundtrack from "Henry V."
Then, I bought him a kazoo and he regaled me with operatic arias gleaned from Animaniacs.
He paid me back amply for the bagpipes...
