St Ann's Academy

Here is one of the schools I attended. This is St Ann's. It is still there, though now it is a sort of rehab garden school.
Providence Farm
This is where I hung out when I was a kid.
This is where Sister Mary Mercy wielded her yardstick.
This is where I learned a lot about life and a bit about the Catholic church.

  1. That is a beautiful building, Ronni. I was rejected by a Catholic school when I was a child. Probably because I was a Protestant.

Now, I'm nothing. Too much abuse within religion for my liking. Shudder.

  2. That is a beautiful school. My daughter attends a Catholic high school, not so much for the religion as for the college prep, and there is only one nun now. Amazing how times change everything.

  3. What a beautiful place.

I have often wondered, as I am driving by a beautiful building, grabbing my camera, finding out it's a catholic church I am passing, how is it the catholic church has so much money?

I have figured out now if I see a huge church, I can bet 99 times out of 100 it will be catholic.

  4. Round Rock has a huge Catholic church, but it's new. Affectionately called "The Round Rock Vatican," for its copper dome, it replaced a much smaller church.

I don't know how most churches build so big. St Richard's, the major Episcopal church in Round Rock, got a loan from the Diocese to build theirs. I imagine that works for other denominations as well.

The Catholic church has been touted as the wealthiest in the world. I've never seen any actual stats on that, though.

  5. Mgt, I was a Protestant when I went there. It cost the large sum of $10/month for me to go. It was free for Catholics.

  6. The Catholic Church could single-handedly wipe out world poverty, Ronni. So, what are they doing with their wealth?

It is all about greed. I can't remember anyone ever saying that God or Jesus thought building Churches and creating wealthy institutions was the way to go. Maybe it's just me....!

I better not get started, sorry.

  7. I have some very good friends who are Catholic, so I will just say this: I think that Christianity, in general got it all wrong. They made a church about Christ, rather than embracing his teaching and running with it. Much easier to do the former than the latter.

I would not hurt the feelings of my Christian friends, no matter what denomination, but I'm jut not a believer.

When mentioning something similar to your argument, Mgt, to a Christian friend, she sain, "But, Honey...churches are for sinners," meaning that I should not expect people to be without sin, even though they are Christians. I know that's true, but it seems that some folks don't even try.
