This is the dance for which I am building the costumes. You can see that one is complete, and the bodices are done for a couple more. I didn't build these from scratch--the originally had long skirts, and the tops all had to be altered to fit.

This is Cliff Butler, as Judas Iscariot.
Ronni, you amaze me with your creative sewing talents and I look forward to seeing the pictures of your completed projects. Although not nearly as gifted as you, I enjoy sewing myself.Gorealtors
ReplyDeleteIt's becoming a rare skill! Nobody has time, any more. I can't tell you the number of people who ask us to do alterations for them, and we have to send them away. We just don't have the time...
ReplyDeleteThis project is a "side job." I was made an offer I couldn't refuse.
Can't wait to see the finished costumes!
ReplyDeleteand your right it seems to be a rare skill these days!whatever happened to teaching this stuff in schools..I feel so old. None of the younger generation of my family can sew!
Wait to you see the crib set I'm making for the baby..I do love to sew and wish I had more time.(and a proper sewing room) These days I have to MAKE the time! lol
And I got an offer I couldn't refuse either,(we all need money)my other passion,cakes....I just blogged about the Extreme wedding cake I've been asked to make...I had to sharpen my pencils for this one! I had to do a mock-up for approval..
BTW,How many costumes are you doing for this show? looking forward to seeing them..I love stuff like that.
It's actually a side job for me. I just got hired to alter the five gowns. Mary Ellen Butler designed this show herself, and has rented quite a lot of stuff from us for it.
ReplyDeleteI did make the tear-away robe Jesus will wear when he gets flogged, but that was strictly because I was sitting there anyway.
Thank goodness the show is over, Ronni. You would never have been able to manage you 2 jobs as well as this extra work.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised you were asked to do this, you are so good at what you do.
Yeah, if "Shakespeare in Hollywood" was still on, I could not have done this.
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm getting paid! Mary Ellen got a donation to buy the gowns, and a further one to pay to have them altered.
What's the buzz? Tell me what's happening....
ReplyDeleteWhat a great play and how wonderful that you're costuming it! You've got such talent. Can't wait to see more pictures!
We (Ramona and I) are not actually costuming it. The director designed the show herself, and we supplied some (quite a few) of the costumes, but Mary Ellen came and picked them out herself.
ReplyDeleteThe bustle dresses were a side job for me. Mary Ellen purchased the dresses and hired me to alter them. Very nice of her, as Brendan needs new jeans and boots.
Do I dare show you Herod?
