Jesus Christ,Superstar!

I just came from watching a rehearsal of "Jesus Christ, Superstar," at the Palace Theater in Georgetown.

They are ten days away from opening, and have been working very hard. They have only just started rehearsing on the Palace stage, and tonight was devoted to learning where the staircase is and where the dancers are in relation to the edge of the (newly extended) stage.

They got through only the first act tonight, but they had me in tears three times; the first during the Overture!

I really don't want to give out any spoilers, but the staging is brilliant and the singing, more so.

The first act ends with the sound of a bag of thirty pieces of silver landing on the stage in front of Judas.

I don't know the names of most of the cast, but Cliff Butler, as Judas, gives the character such depth that you will walk away, shaking your head.

This promises to be the best show the Palace has ever done. It is definitely a "must see."

Palace Theater

Congratulations to Mary Ellen Butler and the entire cast and crew! This show rocks already!

  1. I KNOW this show is going to be awesome! But in order to say it will be the best show the Palace has ever done, you had to have seen "Cats". LOL! Course I say that because I was in it, BUT.....it WAS really good. Actually, if you had seen it, you would have gotten to see Sara Burke (Who plays Mary in Superstar) play Rumpleteazer and steal the show! As much as you like costumes, I think you would have enjoyed it along with the intensive make-up.

  3. Well, remember how you were talking about the end of your show? How close you had become to the cast? That's how Cats was. Usually when you are in a show you might be called two or three times a week for your scenes and more as the opening gets closer. With Cats, it is such an ensemble show, that we were ALL called five days a week right from the start. There were only a couple of cast members that weren't onstage pretty much ALL the time. We got close. Really close. It was so hard to say goodbye! We all worked hard and were so super proud of what we accomplished. I will always hold it near and dear to my heart. So, nitpicky, yep, proud of it! LOL!

  4. In all honesty, I wish I could have seen it. The trouble with DOING plays is that you don't get to SEE as many as you would like.

Please don't think I'm dissing it, because I am not. I heard nothing but good about it, and have the feeling that I shall always regret not having seen it.

  6. It was rough, and I'm very tired, but afraid I won't be able to sleep.

Maybe I can find a boring book...
