"Shakespeare in Hollywood" closed last night to a fantastic full house. Chairs set in the aisles. And they laughed. They got every joke, which inspired us to give more and more. Any cast members not on stage gathered around the monitor or in the wings to watch the scenes. Usually cast members are wandering outside, in the annex, doing homework, listening to their ipods, and just keeping an ear out for their cues. Not this time. Nobody wanted to miss anything.
It was definitely one of the best closing nights in which I've had the privilege of participating.
This cast was brilliant! There were new people who had never worked with us before, and, as Robbie so succinctly put it in his Curtain Speech, a lot of recycled actors. Everyone in the cast gave 100% to the show.
It was "beauty truly blent."
By the way, Robbie, there were only seven "uhs" in last night's speech. Jim would be very proud. That's down from thirty-four the first time you gave the Curtain Speech.
For those of you who don't know, the Curtain Speech is given by a Board Member, and is sort of like the trailers in a movie theater. The audience is reminded of upcoming shows, exhorted to purchase a membership, and requested to silence their cell phones and small children. From Robbie, it's a stand-up routine.
It was absolutely the most fun I've had up at Sam Bass Theater for a long time.
Thank you, Lynn, for letting me play.
