Well, Well, Well

We had a full house tonight for "Shakespeare in Hollywood." A lot of theater people and great laughers. They knew Shakespeare from sheep dip, and got all the jokes.

In the "joydit" line, afterwards, guess who had the colossal nerve to ask me if I'd like to costume "Hello, Dolly" for him?

Go ahead...guess.

Yup. Got it in one. Sam Bass Theater's intrepid president.

Now, the "joydit" line didn't seem to be the place to show him his sign (see above), so I asked for some time to think about it...

...but I'm not going to do it.

Edited to add: for the story of WHY I'm not going to costume this man's play, read this entry, followed by this one. And, for a more-or-less complete list of my theater experience, look here.

  1. You might want to suggest your costumes might upstage his direction.
I love the sign and will be using it frequently. Isn't it nice when 350 lb. Buzzards come back to ruste (sp)

  3. I have friends in Brighton Michigan. When we visited them a year and a half ago, they took us to the town of Hell, and I wrote several blog entries at the time, full of puns about Hell.

That winter, Martin send me the picture, as promised, so I would have proof that Hell really does freeze over.

  4. And Hell is indeed frozen over again!

I can not believe the cojones of this guy, to ask for your help.

    Does he have amniesa?

  5. He is counting on my colossal ego. Like many of us too lazy to really notice our fellow humans, he expects everyone to be driven by the same things that drive him. Ego is one of the most important.

  6. Ramona will get a kick out of this. I still can't imagine what sort of "Hello Dolly" he can produce on the tiny Sam Bass stage.

I was amazed when Cliff managed to put up "Man of La Mancha." "The Women" was a bit crowded. Back in the day, we did "Inherit the Wind," and I think that still holds the record for the most people cast in a show at Sam Bass. Over 30, though I don't recall the exact number.

He says he plans to have virtually no set, which I can understand. We do a lot of shows like that, to the point where it's a nice surprise to walk into the theater and see a drawing room set, or a castle...we get used to using blank black walls, as we are in this one.

  7. Sounds like there's a story behind the asking too :)

Your latest seems to have been an unqualified success, no?

PS -- I looked at some posts from last spring yesterday -- I saw the wedding day pic with Addy sitting at a table. I must say your gown was gorgeous and so completely "you".

  8. The gown is a Gunne Sax, purchased at an Antique Mall for $40. I couldn't have made it for that!

I shall probably never get into it again, but, then again, why would I want to?
