A Misty, Moisty Morning

It's cold and foggy and mizzling outside. It would be depressing, except that this is Texas, and such weather is rare. If I had stayed out until dusk, it would have felt like Christmas shopping weather in British Columbia, or even in England.

45° F--cold enough for a scarf, but not a coat, unless a person was going to be outside for a long time. Which I wasn't. I was in Ikea. That's the most enjoyable maze I've ever wandered. It's a good thing they leave a trail of crumbs, in the form of arrows on the floor, or I'd be there still, wandering from room to room.

I'm looking for two pieces of furniture. Both the same--low, narrow, long, and with drawers. The best one they had was red, and I don't want red. I'd rather have a wood finish, but I'd settle for white. I need one for the front hall and the other in my bedroom.

Now that I've started to get the Prior stuff out of the way, I'm shopping for some Ronni stuff.

I did get some shelves for the bathroom. Let's see if I can mount them level!

Still, I was mostly just enamoured of the day. It's Monday, and not many were out and about, and it's not foggy enough to be dangerous, just a little bit mysterious. As Jimmy would have said, "good hunting weather." I would have liked to have been in the woods, though not so much with the gun.

  1. I love Ikea but I hate having to put that stuff together on my own.

I hope you treated yourself to a meal.

  2. Actually, I was a bit disappointed with the food this time. Last time I went there, I praised the food to the skies, but yesterday, not so much.

  3. BTW, that's a heckuva lot to be paying for storage. Shiite, it is only about £5 a week over here. Maybe £10 if you have loads of stuff.

Are they keeping it polished or something? Gawd!

  4. I like looking through the catalog they sent me. I get what you mean about some of the color options.

Not everyone wants a screaming red dresser.

  5. It is expensive. Air conditioned, though. Plus insurance.

  6. Oh wel, that has calmed me down. LOL

I forgot that your stuff is really valuable, too. I wouldn't know what it was like to own anything of value. I'm a peasant!

  7. A situation I'd like to duplicate at the earliest possible moment.

I loved Jim, and these things are beautiful, and I do appreciate them, but I don't like being the custodian for them. If they were mine, I would donate the best of them to a museum and sell the rest.

  8. Ronni,

Try Craigslist for your dresser. That's where I'm getting stuff to furnish our extra rooms. You can find some deals!

Do you know any rare book restorers. I got one volume of Webster's original 2 volume set dictionary published in 1828. The leather cover is shot but the internal leaves are in good shape and tight. I bought it in a second hand store in Maine for 50 cents in 1968. Since it is a first edition it could be worth big bucks. If you can get it restored I'll send it to you to help you out. God knows you can use the help. Let me know.

  10. Well, you are right about that! I do need all the help I can get!

Still, we are not homeless, or on food stamps, so it's all good. Still paying taxes here, and not on the receiving end of them, thank you very much! LOL.

Actually, if I knew of a book restorer, I'd get some of the Prior books fixed up. I have custody of a 1786 edition of the Complete Works of John Bunyan, including "Pilgrim's Progress" and a whole flock of pretty good sermons.

    Thanks for the offer, though.

  11. Renee, Craig's List sounds like a good option. I was contemplating a day spent wandering thrift shops...

  12. Ronni, here's a suggestion that appeared back in August, but maybe slipped under the radar (understandably so). The Austin Freecycle Network (AFN) at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AustinFreecycle/ might be a good resource for finding free furniture. Its description says: "Cooler than a garage sale, greener than the landfill, AFN connects people with unwanted items and people wanting those items." Good luck finding the things you want and need. Glad to hear that you're making your house the way you like it.
