Letter to Jim

Dear Jim,

Guess who I ran into at the HEB tonight! Chase! Yep. That really cool kid you talked about so much, and whose talent and heart were such a big part of your program during his years in your class. He has a beard! Can you imagine?

He may have been the last of your students to see you. He came up to me and asked "Is it true...is he gone?" I had to tell him about it, Jim. It seemed as if he needed to know. I hope I did all right...

I said, "Don't forget to always say it so the fat deaf guy in the back can hear it," and he said, "Practice makes permanent!"

We both said a lot more than that.

I wonder if you'd still do it, if you had it to do over...?

With all my love,

Ronni

  1. I hope Jim is resting in peace, Ronni. This is a hard one to comment on so I will just keep my big, ugly gob shut for once.

He touched so many lives and it is nice to see that he is remembered with such affection.

  2. Here's hoping the nights are getting easier.

I don't have your grief to deal with and I find it hard to let go of things at night. Whether it is domestic, global or personal, I find that the last thing to get tired is my mind.

No wonder I feel so knackered when the alarm goes off in the morning.

In my long, rambling way, I'm trying to say that I can only imagine....

I do know that Jim did not know what he was doing when he killed himself.
He never would have lined up the shot the way he did; with the bullet toward the house
