Why Do Men Kill Their Wives?

Boston Globe Article

From the link:

A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, LISA HARTWICK WAS RIDING IN AN elevator in Boston when she overheard a conversation between two men. One of the men was going through a divorce, and he was venting to his friend about lawyers and child support payments. At that point, Hartwick recalls, the man suggested, within earshot of everyone, that maybe he should just kill his wife, that it would be cheaper and easier that way.

Cheaper...how? Easier...than what?

What scale are these men using for comparison? Do they all think they are smart enough to beat the system?

I'll tell you what, though. Some of them, when they really think it through, seem to be doing a lot better that Scott Peterson and Mark Hacking.

New Rule: Lawyer up immediately, refuse to talk to police, and stay out of the media.

Almost a year from the murder of pregnant Michelle Young, there has been no arrest. The husband has not spoken with police, and media coverage has been curiously minimal, even in the early days. There is no headstone on her grave, and there has been one appeal to the public, months after her death, sponsored by Progress Energy, her employer. Her mother and sister held two vigils, one on what would have been her birthday, and another involving planting a tree in her memory. Her husband? Not so much.

Because of the dearth of facts in this case, rumours abound, and, after almost a year, those discussing the case have trouble distinguishing rumour from fact. The only undisputed truth seems to be that a beautiful pregnant mother was horribly bludgeoned to death in her bedroom in the early hours of November 3rd of last year, and her two-and-a-half year old daughter left alone with her mother's body until the early afternoon, when Michelle's sister went to the house. Seems she got a call from the husband, who was out of town on business, requesting her, with a lame excuse, to go over there.

Never mind the million dollar insurance policies the Youngs had on each other, the huge and expensive home, the "relationship" Jason had with Michelle's married sorority sister, and the extreme brutality of the crime. All of these things point to the husband, who was, supposedly, alone in a hotel room two and a half hours away during the time of death.

I am still hoping for justice in this case, but right now, I'll settle for a bit of news.

  1. Excellent, Ronni!
It seems that (in some cases) if family members do not push as hard as they can and are not extremely persistent demanding an arrest, murder cases slide.

I pray there will be justice for Michelle...ASAP. Hopefully, LE is on the job and there will be some positive action soon.

It is inconceivable these guys will get away with murder!

  2. It's a disturbing trend; assuming it's even a valid option to just kill a spouse over child support, etc, rather than take responsibility.

How unsettling to hear something like that in such close proximity to the person saying it.

  3. ... Some of them, when they really think it through, seem to be doing a lot better that Scott Peterson and Mark Hacking ...

Don't forget that Scott Peterson was desperate to find his wife and, since he knew he was innocent, that trumped any fears he had of a wrongful conviction. Certainly if he had been guilty he would have kicked Frey to the curb and lawyered up instead of letting the police search anywhere they wanted at any time.

Although to this day no one can point to any valid evidence that Scott had anything to do with the abduction and death of his wife - even the jurors cannot explain on what basis they voted for guilt - he wound up convicted anyway not by any evidence but by pathological hatred whipped up by the media - for profit. Given the preposterous hypothesis the prosecution offered, Scott's case is just another trial by hysteria.

  4. Is wife killing becoming more common--or is the press just picking it up more often???

Its a problem--the husband is usually guilty and usually caught. So why do they continue to do it??
    Curious, isnt it?

I have a blog, too--perhaps you will have a chance to check it out sometime. I have just recently revived it after months and months of inactivity.

  5. Susan, thanks.

    BBBWWWWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHH!!!!!!!!

    "Desperate to find his wife?"

    "...knew he was innocent?"

    ROTFLMAO!!

    RIGHT!

Is that why he was telling Amber he was in Paris, while he was actually dodging cameras at Laci's New Years Eve memorial?

How the hell do you think you can second-guess him? How do you know he would have "kicked Frey to the curb?"

"...letting the police search?" Please! If he had not been so ignorant, he would have "lawyered up" early on. He didn't think there would be such an outpouring of interest in his "missing" wife!

The jurors are not required to "explain" why they found him guilty.

What's the matter with you? Do you just like to see men get away with murder?

Nobody "whipped up a pathological hatred." Scotty did that all by him little self!

Any mother whose child has ever tried to lie to her could look at him on GMA and see he was lying.

    And, what about this?
