The Village People

This year, there seem to be fewer people in the Costume Shop wanting to be pirates.

This is a good thing. I was getting a bit bored with pirates.

However, for some strange reason, The Village People have suffered a resurgence.

I had a lady in today. She called and said she was looking to costume all five.

Cool, I thought. Easy to put together, and profitable with it.

Except that, when she got there, she had only "sorta" measurements. And she didn't need all of all five--just pieces. Still cool. Can be done.

Except that she couldn't make up her mind what pieces she wanted. I pulled out every pair of Indian pants before she finally decided to go with a loincloth. I pulled several pairs of leather motorcycle pants before she decided to go with chaps. It took me about 10 minutes to find a pair of sailor pants in the size she needed. She made at least five different phone calls for consultation, and, when I finally got all her pieces added up, the total scared her so badly that she made three more phone calls and cancelled half the order. Including the entire sailor outfit.

I had spent the better part of an hour with her. I had found everything she wanted.

Except that she didn't really want it. She just wanted somebody to pay some attention to her for a while.

Sad, isn't it?

I hope the video of the lip sync they are planning to do winds up on YouTube.

  2. Love the joke. I think Village People lady would have left the shop limping if she did that to me (accidentally on purpose, of course). I'm not really a people person.

  3. She could have saved you a lot of trouble if she'd just asked right up front how much it would cost to have you costume the group.

Good lord, some people are just too stupid to be breathing.

  5. She was told up front the maximum cost for each costume. I had no idea that multiplication was not one of her talents.
